No. 1 Georgetown Day Meets No. 2 Paul VI in Early-Season Showdown

Volleyball season is officially upon us, and the schedule makers are serving up aces with this matchup. The #1 Georgetown Day Grasshoppers dominated the Metro area last year, going 22-1 and not giving up a set in their final 17 matches. The #2 Paul VI Panthers, reigning WCAC champions, will be hosting the ISL AA champs Thursday, 9/10 at 6:00.

The Panthers, led by Co-WCAC Coach of the Year Mary Hays, won their first WCAC title since 2018. Looking to repeat in November, Coach Hays will rely on the experience of Virginia commit senior OH Coco Lewis, senior Connecticut commit MB Cairo Turner, and junior libero Clara Hayes. An incredibly aggressive early season schedule should get the Panthers battle-tested for WCAC league play.

The Hoppers have been the dominant program in the area, winning four consecutive DCSAA championships and the highly competitive ISL AA in 2025. Head Coach and civil engineer by day, Brandon Weist, has assembled quite the roster: Senior Columbia commit OH Zora Dimbo was the MVP of the DCSAA state tournament, senior American University commit OH Alexa Telly was first-team All-ISL AA, and junior Emory commit libero Jaylin Park is recognized as one of the top junior talents in the country. Coach Weist and this new Grasshopper team leap into Chantilly Thursday to defend their #1 ranking.
