Commanders Practice Squad Provides for Future and Present

Some familiar names signed back with the team Monday, along with a couple players we very well may be counting on before the season is over.

A few names that gave Commanders fans hope throughout training camp are back with the team as part of the practice squad that was announced Monday afternoon. First, the official list (so far):

WR Jaden Bradley

DL Byron Cowart

QB Sam Hartman

OL Julian Good-Jones

RB Robert Henry Jr.

CB Fred Davis II

OL Trent Scott

CB Darius Rush

LB Ale Kaho

RB Craig Reynolds

DL Jeffrey M'ba

LB D.J. Johnson

Let's get the obvious out of the way first...that swooning you hear from the fanbase belongs to the many Sam Hartman fans out there. While we wait for his game to catch up to his hairdo, Sam will continue to work with our quarterbacks every day. Continuity at that position is key, and we all know that Hartman and Jayden Daniels have a great relationship, which matters when yoiu have an actual franchise signal-caller.

With our offensive line still...coming together (is that how we want to say that?)...the presence of Trent Scott and Julian Good-Jones provides some depth that we probably already know we will have to lean on at some point this year. Same goes for Robert Henry Jr., who had a great summer and plays a position that gets absolutely chewed up by this league. He showed in August that he deserves a chance to show what he can do in the fall, and odds are he will have that kind of opportunity.

In terms of a player that I think we all loved to see flash in preseason action, Jaden Bradley will continue his NFL journey in the burgundy and gold. We all watched Terry McLaurin take this young man under his wing, and the undrafted player out of UNLV showed he was willing to work. Whether we see him this season or not is not necessarily important, as we simply must be in the business of developing skill position players.

Finally, Byron Cowart gives Daronte Jones a veteran defensive lineman who showed he could be a run-stopping presence up front if needed. We'll characterize Cowart as a player we hope we won't need, because if we don't it will likely mean players like Deatrich Wise and Johnny Newton made it back ontop the field.
