Undefeated Oakton Looks to End 11-Year Drought Against Madison, Clinch Concorde District Title

The 8-0 Cougars are chasing their first win over the Warhawks since 2015, but Madison and star running back Will Smoot have other plans.

With two weeks remaining in Concorde District play, Oakton can clinch the district title with a Friday night victory over Madison. The Cougars are off to a historic 8-0 start under first-year head coach Said Aziz, but defeating the Warhawks has been a challenge. In fact, Oakton hasn’t beaten Madison since 2015, going 0-10 against its rival during that span. But make no mistake: This talented Madison team isn’t looking to play spoiler this week. The Warhawks believe they’re the favorites.

The bad news for Madison: The Warhawks are coming off a tough 40-28 loss to No. 18 South Lakes, snapping a six-game winning streak. The good news: Senior RB Will Smoot has returned for district play and is making a major impact as he works his way back into game-day shape. The All-State performer has piled up 661 yards and six touchdowns in just three games since returning. His presence is a major boost for a team that went 3-2 in district play in 2025 but went on a late run and advanced to the VHSL Class 6 state championship game.

Oakton, meanwhile, is off to its first 8-0 start in 18 years, and the Cougars’ offense is putting up video-game numbers, averaging 43.3 points and 320 yards per game while accounting for 42 total touchdowns. Senior QB Jack Martin recently became the all-time leading passer in Oakton football history, while the Deylen Jones–Collin Henriques combination has accounted for 26 touchdowns. On defense, senior OLB Brayden Vasquez continues to wreak havoc on Fairfax County offenses, recording 103 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, five sacks and three fumble recoveries. Coach Aziz and the undefeated Cougars are closing in on a historic breakthrough. Now, they’ll look to end their 11-year drought against the Warhawks and take another major step toward a Concorde District championship.
