Welcome to Metro Sports Page, your home for the local sports coverage you just might have been missing since...ohhhhh...sometime this past February. Together with our partners around the DMV, we will be jumping into the void and digging into the hyper-local sports scene. From weekly high school rankings (not just football and basketball, folks) and season-ending player and coach awards, to year-round coverage of the Commanders, Nationals, Wizards and Capitals, it is our goal to give diehard DMV sports fans everything they need to stay in the know on local sports.

This week we are proud to present to you our preseason top 20 high school football rankings as a preview of the coverage to come on our digital platform in the coming weeks. We are excited to rank high school football, boys/girls soccer, girls field hockey and girls volleyball this fall and we hope you will stick around to celebrate the All-Metro teams at the end of the season.

In this first offering, we had two goals:
1) lean heavily on last year's finishes around the DMV, paying close to attention to how schools fared against each other--especially in postseason play; and

2) spotlight the head coaches leading these young men onto the gridiron this year.

More now than ever, these schools aren't just fielding teams--they are running programs. We will do our best to highlight the traditions, rivalries and history of these programs across multiple sports. It is our pleasure as a Metro Sports Page editorial staff to thoughtfully consider their weekly performances and publish rankings each Tuesday for what we can only assume will be...universal agreement. Ha!

Once again, enjoy what we hope you will consider to be your digital home field advantage for what we have always believed to be the greatest sports region in the country.

Here we go!
